Biography

Prof. Sherine Al-Shawarby brings decades of experience as an accomplished economist, academic, and leader in higher education. As the Undergraduate Program Director at the School of Business Administration, she oversees the academic journey of students, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to excel in the modern business world.

With extensive expertise in economics and policy analysis, Prof. Shawarby has held prominent positions, including Senior Economist at the World Bank, Deputy Minster at the Ministry of Finance, and Dean at Future University in Egypt. Her academic contributions span macroeconomic modeling, poverty analysis, and economic reform, with numerous publications in international journals.

Prof. Shawarby’s leadership at SBA focuses on fostering innovation, academic excellence, and student success, preparing graduates to thrive in both local and global contexts.

Achievements
  • Prof. Sherine held advisory roles in institutions in Egypt and Algeria, including the African Development Bank. In Egypt, she collaborated with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprise Development Agency.
  • She collaborates with UNICEF, ILO, ERF, UNHCR, and WFP to establish social protection programs for refugees and asylum seekers.
  • She authored economic studies of several World Bank reports focusing on the Egyptian economy and the MENA region.
  • She contributed to World Bank books on inequality and Egypt's food subsidies
  • She recently collaborated with the World Bank on a multi-country project focusing on financing cash transfer programs
  • She collaborates with the ILO to examine the effects of climate change on vulnerable sectors in Egypt
