The Data and Environmental Engineering program

About the Program:

With the rapid advancement in data collection and analysis technology, companies and institutions are investing in data analysis capabilities to keep up with ongoing developments and continuous competition. However, as data analysis tools advance rapidly, there is a shortage of qualified data analysts and scientists in the job market.

Acknowledging the need to align students with emerging employment trends, the School of Energy and Environmental Engineering has introduced the Data and Environment Engineering program. This program allows students to use their technical knowledge and environmental training to integrate applications into data analytics, providing them with diverse career options after graduation.

The program covers a comprehensive set of engineering skills required in the labor market to build engineering systems to help collect the necessary data for conducting environmental impact assessments covering the requirements of the Ministry of Environment and similar executive agencies in other countries.

It is important to note that Law No. 4 for the year 1994 on environmental protection and Executive Regulation No. 338 for the year 1995 stipulate that facilities or new projects, as well as expansions in existing facilities, must undergo an environmental impact assessment before permits are issued.

The assessment includes various engineering aspects that require data engineering skills specific to environmental impact. Consequently, there is a pressing need for graduate engineers to specialize in data engineering and its applications in the field of the environment.

Furthermore, data engineering represents one of the emerging and sought-after fields in the job market, as many companies and institutions aim to collect and analyze their data in various engineering aspects to contribute to design, planning, and making economic and engineering decisions.

The Data and Environment Engineering program provides a strong foundation in handling, analyzing, and reviewing data. Graduates from the program can pursue multiple career paths in environmental fields and many other fields dealing with data, such as data science, data collection and analysis engineering, environment, and intelligent analysis. The program can benefit from the following opportunities:

  • High demand for data engineers, as the demand for graduates of this specialization is increasing at rates higher than average due to its association with digital transformation and developments in artificial intelligence.
  • Career path diversity, where graduates of the Data and Environment Engineering specialization can work in various fields, such as data management and analysis sciences, data automation, intelligent analysis, environmental data analysis, environmental engineering, and environmental impact studies.
