Deep Learning-Based Context-Aware Video Content Analysis on IoT Devices

Integrating machine learning with the Internet of Things (IoT) enables many useful applica-tions. For IoT applications that incorporate video content analysis (VCA), deep learning models are usually used due to their capacity to encode the high-dimensional spatial and temporal representations of videos. However, limited energy and computation resources present a major challenge. Video captioning is one type of VCA that describes a video with a sentence or a set of sentences. This work proposes an IoT-based deep learning-based framework for video captioning that can (1) Mine large open-domain

Parallel random bitstreams from a single source of entropy based on nonthermal electrochemical microplasma

This study presents the simultaneous generation of two uncorrelated and continuous high-quality random bitstreams originating from a single physical system based on confined, nonthermal electrochemical microplasma operating under atmospheric conditions. The randomness is intrinsically inherited from the time-resolved electrical current and optical emission intensities of the microplasma system, which were collected using wide bandwidth current probe and photodetection device. The parallel bitstreams pass unambiguously all 15 NIST SP 800-22 statistical tests without the need for any data post

Comprehensive machine learning models for predicting therapeutic targets in type 2 diabetes utilizing molecular and biochemical features in rats

Introduction: With the increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), there is an urgent need to discover effective therapeutic targets for this complex condition. Coding and non-coding RNAs, with traditional biochemical parameters, have shown promise as viable targets for therapy. Machine learning (ML) techniques have emerged as powerful tools for predicting drug responses. Method: In this study, we developed an ML-based model to identify the most influential features for drug response in the treatment of type 2 diabetes using three medicinal plant-based drugs (Rosavin, Caffeic

Analytical Methods for the Determination of Quercetin and Quercetin Glycosides in Pharmaceuticals and Biological Samples

Flavonoids are plant-derived compounds that have several health benefits, including antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, anti-mutagenic, and anti-carcinogenic effects. Quercetin is a flavonoid that is widely present in various fruits, vegetables, and drinks. Accurate determination of quercetin in different samples is of great importance for its potential health benefits. This review, is an overview of sample preparation and determination methods for quercetin in diverse matrices. Previous research on sample preparation and determination methods for quercetin are summarized, highlighting the

The FDA-Approved Drug Cobicistat Synergizes with Remdesivir to Inhibit SARS-CoV-2 Replication in Vitro and Decreases Viral Titers and Disease Progression in Syrian Hamsters

Combinations of direct-acting antivirals are needed to minimize drug resistance mutations and stably suppress replication of RNA viruses. Currently, there are limited therapeutic options against the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), and testing of a number of drug regimens has led to conflicting results. Here, we show that cobicistat, which is an FDA-approved drug booster that blocks the activity of the drug-metabolizing proteins cytochrome P450-3As (CYP3As) and P-glycoprotein (P-gp), inhibits SARS-CoV-2 replication. Two independent cell-to-cell membrane fusion

Hybrid Irrigation System in Egypt: Design and Optimization

This presents a hybrid photovoltaic/diesel system simulated as an alternative to the diesel generators required for water pumping systems. This hybrid system is designed to overcome the limitations of the fluctuating price and availability of diesel generators, ensure a reliable supply without interruptions, and improve the overall system efficiency. The system configuration offers an economical benefits over fully renewable hybrid systems or PV only systems. The novelty of the system design lies in minimizing its complexity in terms of design size and control while using a 10 KW photovoltaic

Optimal fractional-order fuzzy-MPPT for solar water pumping system

This paper seeks to improve the efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) water pumping system using Fractional-order Fuzzy Maximum Power Point Tracking (FoF-MPPT) control and Gray Wolf Optimization (GWO) technique. The fractional calculus has been used to provide an enhanced model of PV water pumping system to, accurately, describe its nonlinear characteristics. Moreover, three metaheuristic optimizers are applied to tune the parameters of the proposed FoF-MPPT, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and the GWO. The FoF-MPPT is intensively tested and compared to the Perturb

Nonlinear analysis of Euler beams resting on a tensionless soil with arbitrary configurations

Background: The nonlinear interaction between an elastic Euler beam and a tensionless soil foundation is studied. The exact analytical solutions of the nonlinear problem are rather complicated. The main difficulty is imposing compatibility conditions at lift-off points. These points are determined as a part of the solution, although being needed to get the solution itself. In the current work, semi-analytical solutions are derived using the Rayleigh–Ritz method. The principle of vanishing variation of potential energy is adopted. The solution is approximated using a set of suitable trial

Influence of high-strain-rate compression and subsequent heat treatment on (TiNbZr)89(AlTa)11 refractory high-entropy alloys: Dynamic-mechanical behavior and microstructural changes

This study explored the dynamic-mechanical behavior of a novel low-density (TiNbZr)89(AlTa)11 refractory high-entropy alloy (RHEA) across strain rates ranging from 1.0 × 103 to 3.5 × 103 s−1. A significant increase in the yield and ultimate compressive strengths with rising strain rates up to 3.0 × 103 s−1 was observed and attributed to enhanced dislocation activities and stress-induced microstructural transformations. The formation of the B2 phase and Zr5Al3 precipitates was found to be crucial in bolstering the alloy strength at high strain rates. Beyond strain rates of 3.0 × 103 s−1, a

Investigating the Microstructural Impact of Tensile Stretching on Al-Zn-Mg-Cu Alloys: Dislocation-Precipitate Interactions

The study investigates the effects of tensile stretching on the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of a high Zn-content Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy, emphasizing dislocation dynamics and precipitate behavior. The alloy, with a composition of Al-9.01 Zn-2.45 Cu-2.25 Mg-0.13 Zr (wt.%), prepared through casting subjected to peak-aged (T6) at 743 K for 1 h followed by 393 K for 24 h. Tensile stretching at room temperature (~ 298 K) and a strain rate of 1.0 × 10−3 s−1 resulted in a 20% increase in yield strength from to 300 to ~ 360 MPa, with ductility decreasing to ~ 1% elongation to
