Sub-Regional Seminar on the Enforcement of Intellectual Property for Law Enforcement Officials from Selected Arabic-Speaking Countries in Africa
Nile University, through its Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office (IPTTO), led by Dr. Heba Kaoud, proudly organized the "Sub-Regional Seminar on the Enforcement of Intellectual Property for Law Enforcement Officials from Selected Arabic-Speaking Countries in Africa," in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority (EGIPA), and the Japan Patent Office (JPO).
The event took place from December 3rd to December 5th 2024 at Ramses Hilton Cairo. This significant seminar brought together Law Enforcement and IP professionals, as well as various representative from different sectors and industries to address the challenges in Intellectual Property (IP) enforcement and strengthen Egypt's transition towards a knowledge-based economy.
Dr. Alaa Eldin Adris, Professor at the Graduate School of Management of Technology and IPTTO advisor, delivered a keynote speech at the seminar, outlining a vision for evolving the IP protection system to adapt to changing economic landscapes and serve the public interest.
Dr. Heba Kaoud, Director of the IPTTO and Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Management of Technology, moderated a key panel discussion titled "Securing the Future: The Importance of IP Enforcement."
The panel featured renowned experts: Mr. Samer Al Tarawneh: Legal Counsellor at WIPO ; Justice (R) Muhammad Farrukh Irfan Khan, Chairman of United Trademark and Patent Services, Senior Judge Dr. Fady Habashy, Court of Appeal, Cairo and Dr. Alaa Eldin Adris.
The panel examined the challenges and opportunities in IP enforcement, discussed the economic impact of IP infringement, and emphasized the importance of protecting both consumer interests and the rights of IP owners.
The seminar included intensive working sessions where participants, representing relevant ministries and institutions such as the Ministry of Justice, the State Council, the Administrative Control Authority, the Public Prosecutor's Office, the General Administration for Intellectual Property Investigations and Protection at the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Finance, the Egyptian Customs Authority, and the Ministry of Culture, discussed the challenges facing the enforcement of intellectual property rights and proposed suitable solutions.
