From Sequence to Function: AI Meets Biodiversity!
Three days of discovery, hands-on training, and AI-powered science!
The 4th Edition of the Africa BioGenome Project (AfricaBP) Open Institute North Africa Regional Workshop Series, held on 20–22 October, brought together more than 20 participants from different regions of Egypt and reputable institutions under the theme “AI-Powered Biodiversity Omics: From Sequence to Function.”
The School of Biotechnology at Nile University proudly hosted, organized, and delivered the practical training sessions, contributing its expertise and facilities to create an engaging, hands-on learning experience.
Participants gained practical experience in AI-powered biodiversity genomics, precision eco-informatics, multi-omics for climate-resilient crop breeding, AI-driven image analysis, clinical interpretation, and effector prediction in plant–virus interactions. The workshop culminated in a collaborative, AI-assisted biodiversity data interpretation challenge using MetaboAnalyst, where teams applied computational tools to real-world biological questions.
Through expert-led instruction, guided practical sessions, and project-based learning, the workshop strengthened participants’ computational skills, encouraged collaboration, and highlighted the potential of AI to advance biodiversity research.
Building skills. Connecting scientists. Empowering Africa’s biodiversity research community.
