Nile University Strengthens Global Green Hydrogen Partnerships Through CTCN Learning Visit in the Republic of Korea
Nile University represented Egypt at the third annual UN Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN) Learning Visit on Green Hydrogen Production and Fuel Cells, held from 14–16 July 2026 in Seoul and Daejeon, Republic of Korea. The visit was organized by the CTCN Partnership and Liaison Office and brought together international experts to advance cooperation and capacity-building in green hydrogen technologies.
Representing Egypt was Dr. Nadia Al-Ansary, Director of the International Green Hydrogen Center (IGHC) at Nile University. Dr. Al-Ansary attended following her nomination by the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA)—Egypt’s National Designated Entity to the CTCN.
During the visit, Dr. Al-Ansary delivered a presentation titled:“Egypt: A Global Platform for GH2 Collaboration — Connecting Governments, Research, Industry and Innovation for the Global Hydrogen Economy.”
Her remarks highlighted Egypt’s strategic potential as a regional hub for green hydrogen production and export, emphasizing the need for integrated ecosystems that connect government, academia, industry, finance, and international partners to accelerate technology deployment, innovation, and capacity development.
The program was hosted by three leading Korean research institutions: Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER), and Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT). Over the course of three days, the delegation included researchers, policymakers, and technology experts from countries including Brazil, Chile, Egypt, Guinea, Indonesia, Kenya, Namibia, Paraguay, and South Africa.
Participants explored the full hydrogen value chain—covering next-generation electrolysis, hydrogen storage, fuel cells, advanced materials, and systems integration—while sharing national experiences on translating hydrogen strategies into real-world implementation.
Egypt’s contribution focused on its rapidly developing green hydrogen ecosystem, including green ammonia opportunities and export-oriented platforms, along with the role of Nile University’s International Green Hydrogen Center in supporting research, policy development, innovation, and international collaboration.
The visit concluded with a collaborative workshop to shape future concepts for CTCN technical assistance, including joint research and innovation initiatives and South–South and triangular cooperation, which reinforced international partnerships aimed at accelerating the global hydrogen economy.
Looking ahead, the International Green Hydrogen Center at Nile University will leverage the outcomes of the visit to expand international research collaboration, support technology transfer, develop joint capacity-building programs, contribute to evidence-based policy development, and explore further CTCN technical assistance opportunities aligned with Egypt’s green hydrogen ambitions. These efforts support the Center’s mission to position Egypt as a regional knowledge and innovation hub for green hydrogen and strengthen Egypt’s contribution to the global energy transition.
