NU Teaching Assistant Expands Academic Horizons Through Erasmus+ KA171 Mobility at Riga Technical University

Nile University’s Office for International Affairs (OIA) continues to strengthen the university’s international engagement by creating opportunities that support not only students, but also young academics and teaching assistants in gaining meaningful global exposure.

 

As part of the Erasmus+ KA171 Mobility ProgramMs. Omnia Ahmed Youssef, Teaching Assistant in Nile University’s Undergraduate Mechanical Engineering Program, recently completed a week-long academic mobility at Riga Technical University (RTU) in Latvia.

 

Organized and facilitated by OIA, the mobility provided Omnia with the opportunity to engage with an international academic and research environment, exchange ideas and practices, explore advanced technologies, and broaden her professional and academic perspectives.

 

During her visit, Omnia explored several of RTU’s advanced research facilities across its Ķīpsala and Faculty of Engineering Economics and Management campuses.

 

Among the facilities visited was HyperLab, where research combines behavioral science, artificial intelligence, EEG, eye-tracking, and physiological measurements to study human interaction with technology and better understand cognitive and behavioral responses.

 

She also visited the KUKA Robotics Laboratory, which focuses on industrial robotics, automated production systems, smart factory integration, and digital simulation, as well as the 3D Concrete Printing Laboratory, where researchers are developing more sustainable construction solutions using locally available minerals and recycled industrial waste.

 

The mobility went beyond exposure to advanced technologies. It offered an important platform for the exchange of academic knowledge, research approaches, and international practices, while allowing Omnia to explore potential areas for future collaboration and development at Nile University.

 

Following the experience, Omnia returned with a number of valuable ideas and strategic insights, including opportunities to further explore an interdisciplinary AI & Engineering Laboratory connecting areas such as Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, and Computer Science, as well as the potential introduction and development of 3D printing technologies within Civil Engineering.

 

Through initiatives such as Erasmus+ KA171, Nile University’s Office for International Affairs aims to empower young academics, expand their professional horizons, strengthen international academic networks, and ensure that the knowledge and perspectives gained abroad contribute back to the wider NU community.

 

This mobility reflects Nile University’s continued commitment to internationalization, academic development, research collaboration, and preparing the next generation of globally engaged educators and researchers.
