Teaching Assistant - Mechanical Engineering
Job Summary:
Teaching Assistants provide instructional, academic, and administrative support to faculty members and students to facilitate the effective delivery of teaching and learning activities. Their responsibilities include conducting tutorials and laboratory sessions, preparing instructional materials, grading assignments and assessments in accordance with the course professor's guidelines, providing academic support to students, including those requiring additional assistance or accommodations, and contributing to the academic advising process. They also perform assigned administrative and research-related duties in support of the program's educational mission.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist in teaching assigned courses under the supervision of the course professor.
- Conduct tutorials, laboratory sessions, recitations, and other instructional support activities as assigned.
- Prepare teaching materials, including tutorial exercises, laboratory manuals, assignments, and model answers.
- Provide academic support to students through office hours, academic advising, and individual consultations.
- Assist in assessment activities, including monitoring attendance, grading assignments, quizzes, laboratory reports, and maintaining accurate academic records.
- Giving extra help to students who need special accommodation
- Participate in assigned research activities, including literature review, simulations, software development, experimental work, data analysis, and technical report preparation.
- Contribute to the preparation of research publications, technical reports, theses, and other scholarly outputs, as appropriate.
- Supervise and maintain teaching laboratories, including preparing laboratory experiments, ensuring equipment readiness, and promoting compliance with laboratory safety procedures.
- Perform administrative and academic duties assigned by the School Dean, Program Director, or course instructors in support of the school's educational and research mission.
- Participate in departmental, school, and university meetings, workshops, outreach activities, and community engagement events as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in (Mechanical Power, Mechatronics) or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum graduation grade of Very Good (or B+ or equivalent).
Knowledge & Competencies
- Strong technical knowledge in the assigned discipline.
- Understanding of effective teaching, learning, and assessment practices.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to effectively support and engage students with diverse learning needs.
- Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, patience, and a positive, student-centered attitude.
Language Skills:
- Mother tongue Arabic
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
Computer Skills:
- Proficiency in MATLAB and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Very good command of Microsoft Office applications.
- Proficiency in email and electronic communication tools.
- Ability to quickly learn and effectively use new software and educational technologies as required.
