Prof. Mohamed Sayed Abed

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Sayed Abed is a Professor of Economics specializing in International Monetary Economics, with more than four decades of experience in university teaching, academic research, institutional leadership, consultancy, and international academic cooperation. 

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Master’s degree in Economics with a specialization in International Economics from Alexandria University, and a Ph.D. in International Monetary Economics from the University of Bremen, Germany, where he graduated Magna cum laude. His doctoral research examined stabilization and liberalization policies and their implications for Egypt’s balance of payments. 

Dr. Abed has had a distinguished academic career at Alexandria University, progressing from Demonstrator to Professor of Economics. He has held several senior academic and administrative positions, including Vice-Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, Chair of the Economics Department, and Executive Manager of the Egyptian-German Center for International Development (EGCID). He has also served as an economic consultant in Saudi Arabia and as an Associate Professor at Beirut Arab University. 

Since 2021, Dr. Abed has been seconded to Nile University, where he has contributed to academic program development, curriculum design, research, institutional development, and strengthening the links between economics and business education. 

His teaching experience covers Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International Economics, International Trade, Managerial Economics, Econometrics, Financial Derivatives, Economic Policy, and Contemporary Economic Issues. His research interests include macroeconomic policy, foreign exchange, inflation, fiscal dominance, monetary policy, foreign direct investment, capital flows, economic growth, and the Egyptian economy. He has published research in academic journals and authored and co-authored books and textbooks in economics. 

Dr. Abed has supervised Master's and Ph.D. research across a broad range of policy-relevant economic topics and has contributed to curriculum development, internationalization, academic partnerships, and externally funded projects. His international experience includes academic cooperation with universities in Germany, France, and the United States, as well as participation in DAAD-supported programs and international scholarship initiatives.
