Biography

Dr. Mohamed Sayed Abed is a Professor of Economics at Alexandria University, with a distinguished career defined by academic leadership, institutional service, and international engagement. He earned his PhD from the University of Bremen, Germany, in 1998, graduating with the merit of Magna cum Laude. Since commencing his career at Alexandria University, Dr. Abed has consistently demonstrated the administrative vision and commitment to excellence that advance the Faculty's academic and organizational mission.

Dr. Abed has held several high-responsibility leadership roles within Alexandria University, including Vice-Dean for Graduate Studies and Research (2014–2017), Chair of the Economics Department (2018–2019), and Executive Manager of the Egyptian–German Center for International Development EG-CID (2019–2020). In these capacities, he successfully oversaw academic planning, program review, postgraduate policies, faculty affairs, and research development.

Most recently, Dr. Abed was seconded to Nile University, where he served as Program Director of the Bachelor of Business Administration (2021–2024) and Director of the Center for Economics and Business Studies (CEBS) (2022–2024). He significantly strengthened the university's research profile by guiding empirical projects, hosting visiting scholars, and facilitating scholarly exchange with regional and international partners. A key achievement was his leadership in developing dual-degree programs with Clermont University in France (2022) and Kent State University in the United States (in progress).

An accomplished scholar in International Monetary Economics, Dr. Abed has authored numerous publications and presented his research at major international conferences, including those of the Middle East Economic Association (MEEA) (2014-2018) and the Economic Research Forum (ERF) (2017). His dedication to nurturing the next generation of economists is evidenced by his supervision of master's and doctoral theses from 1998 to 2023, alongside significant contributions to curriculum development at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Beyond academia, Dr. Abed serves as a member of the Euromoney Country Risk expert panel for Egypt, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia. This role has sharpened his insight into global financial trends and improve his expertise in risk assessment and regional economic dynamics.
