Dr. Vasilya Sultanova

Dr. Vasilya Sultanova is an accomplished academic and finance professional with over two decades of experience spanning higher education, banking, and financial research across the Middle East, Central Asia, and the United States. Currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Finance at Nile University in Cairo, Egypt, she brings a unique blend of international expertise, practical industry knowledge, and scholarly rigor to her teaching and research. 

Academic Background 

Dr. Sultanova earned her PhD from the International School of Management in Paris, where her doctoral research examined herd behavior in the financial markets of the GCC region from 2000 to 2020. She holds a Master of Science in Accounting from Tashkent Technical University, Uzbekistan, and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA. She also holds a Bachelor's degree in International Economic Relations from Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, giving her a strong interdisciplinary foundation that bridges finance, economics, and international business. 

Professional Experience 

Academic Leadership and Teaching 

Since 2018, Dr. Sultanova has been a full-time Assistant Professor of Finance at Nile University, where she has demonstrated exceptional initiative in curriculum development. She pioneered courses on SME Sustainable Finance and Sustainable Finance in collaboration with the Commercial International Bank (CIB), addressing critical gaps in the local educational market. Her extensive teaching portfolio includes both undergraduate and EMBA-level courses such as: 

• Mergers and Acquisitions 

• Venture Capital and Private Equity 

• Corporate Finance 

• International Finance 

• Money and Banking 

• Derivative Securities 

• Capital Markets and Portfolio Management

Beyond classroom instruction, Dr. Sultanova actively contributes to institutional governance through membership on the Students Disciplinary Committee, Quality Control Committee at the Business School level, and the Examination Committee. 

Prior to Nile University, she served as a part-time Lecturer of Finance at New Giza University (2018–2019) and held a long-standing position at the Australian College of Kuwait (2006–2018), where she progressed from Business Management Instructor to Lecturer, teaching financial management and quantitative methods across joint degree programs with the University of Tasmania (UTAS) and Victoria University (VU), Australia. 

Her earlier academic roles include Visiting Lecturer positions at Kuwait-Maastricht Business School, Gulf University for Science & Technology (GUST), and Westminster International University in Tashkent, as well as teaching at Tashkent Technical University. 

Industry Experience 

Dr. Sultanova possesses substantial practical banking experience. From 2000 to 2004, she worked at Ipoteka Bank in Uzbekistan, where she held progressively responsible positions in the securities department. Her achievements include: 

• Supervising listing sting project of Uzbek-Housing & Saving Bank on the Tashkent Stock Exchange 

• Established and Coordinated leasing operations across 16 branches 

• Leading marketing initiatives that increased leasing projects by over 50% within six months 

• Managing investment portfolios and coordinating with the International Financial Corporation (IFC) on due diligence and leasing operations 

• Developing bank policies on investment, capital market activities, and leasing operations 

She also gained early experience in the United States at Bank One in Boulder, Colorado, and completed internships at the National Bank of Uzbekistan and the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.
