A lecture titled “The Future Labor Market considering the Global Technological Advancement” was conducted by Dr. Hassan Aly on the 7th of March 2020, at Sheikh Zayed’s Book Fair. In his lecture, Dr. Hassan Aly, Dean of Business School at NU, introduced the value of labor and how it is considered the main input and the owner of all other factors of production. Professor Aly also explained what is meant by the fourth industrial revolution and how the “Cloud Labor Market” and the “Gig economy” are by products of the fourth industrial revolution. He elucidated, furtherly, on how Egypt may benefit from both if labor policies and regulations cater for these new labor markets.
The impact of demographic transition and long expected life of workers on the Egyptian labor markets was the next topic discussed. Dr. Aly answered pressing questions like when will future workers retire, and why some major traditional jobs will disappear. In addition, he listed some of the most demanded jobs in the nearby future. The talk was concluded with some policy recommendations to policy makers to maximize the benefits of the future labor markets and minimize its down risk.
This lecture was attended by a good number of visitors that included NU professors, NU students, book fair visitors and some of Zayed Foundation Board members who attended the lecture. Dr. Hassan Nassrat, the chair of the scientific committee of Zayed Foundation and a prominent medicine professor, was also included in the talk and is the one who moderated the Q&A part of the lecture.
Dr. Hassan Aly commented on the Book fair by stating that it is considered a great effort by Zayed Foundation to move the exhibition to West Cairo. Hence, it provides Sheikh Zayed and 6th of October residents an opportunity to get to know and buy the latest published books that was released by different publishers and writers.
