Master of Communications and Information Technology – Information Security (MCIT-IS)

Program Description


In today’s technology-driven economies, activities like business and financial transactions, government administration and education are increasingly dependent on technology infrastructures and, therefore, on information security. The program addresses the growing need in Egypt for information security specialists that possess a balance of technical knowledge and business skills. The curriculum is designed to provide background, insights, and technical coverage of key elements of information security, while equipping students with the analytical methods and management practices, to succeed as security professionals. Students will learn how to assess the information security risks facing an organization, and what are the most effective techniques to protect against them.

International partners include a group of world renowned institutions from well recognized universities in USA, Canada and Europe.
Who should attend
The program is targeting IT professionals, system managers, and network administrators, who seek to develop their knowledge of the information security. Prospective students in the program are typically from computer science, or computer engineering backgrounds. An experience and background in the IT/system/network administration is highly recommended.Sectors benefiting from the program include government organizations, public, and private companies, banks and financial institutions, and any organization using information technology.
Program OutcomesGraduates of the program will be able to:

  • Handle the planning, acquisition, and development, of a secure information infrastructure in an organization
  • Assess the vulnerability, risks, and threats of an organization’s information systems
  • Respond to security emergencies and incidents
  • Assess the impact of the legal environment, and information security policies on organizational objectives.


The program faculty consists of professors from North American, and European institutions as well as NU professors specialized in information security.


Program Structure

A student enrolled in the CIT-IS program would be targeting one of two degrees, either

  • a Master’s of Science in CIT (MSCIT-IS)  – this degree allow alumni to continue PHD later
  • a Master’s of CIT (MCIT-IS). this degree doesn’t allow alumni to continue PHD later

The study structure for students pursuing a Master’s degree in the IS track is as follows:

Students enrolled in the IS track take 6 credits as common core and 12 credits as MSCIT elective courses (18 credits in case of MCIT).

“IS Track Core Courses” serve to identify the students’ specialization.

All MSCIT and MCIT Students must complete 3 credits of Management of Technology or Business courses, as approved by the program director.

MSCIT students must successfully complete and defend a Master’s thesis. MCIT students must complete 6 cr hrs of course work and submit and present a project document (3 cr hrs) in lieu of thesis.
