Metrology Lab

The Metrology Laboratory in Nile University enforces the study of measurement, helps students to validate and verify predefined standards for traceability, accuracy, reliability, and precision. The laboratory is currently equipped with different dimensional metrology instruments such as callipers, gauges and instrumentation to inspect various features e.g. linear, angular, geometric form (roundness, flatness), hardness and surface finish measurements. We strive to provide the foundation of dimensional measurements that meets the needs of the scientific and industrial communities through teaching the students different tools for monitoring and controlling manufacturing processes such as statistical process control. The facilities include MeasurLink software available for both teaching and research students. MeasurLink is designed to detect and display patterns and provide additional statistical information to identify when a special cause of variation has entered the process so that the special cause can be eliminated. With this tool, constant adjustment of the process is eliminated. In addition, the software can be helpful in identifying opportunities for improvement that can lead to reduced variation. MeasurLink is designed to detect and display patterns and provide additional statistical information. The Mitutoyo QM-Data200, 264-159A 2-D Processing Unit is also available at NU. It is a geometric readout/analysis unit for the optical profile projector. This apparatus features powerful 2-D coordinate measurement capabilities with unmatched simple key operation. It helps our students to learn how to improve the operator productivity, minimize errors and save on total measurement time and production cost
