Mechatronics Engineering is one of the few actual inter-disciplinary serving a diverse domain of applications and industry. It integrates the mechanical, electronics and computer engineering disciplines in a unified domain to develop and establish new end-user products, production systems and automated service establishments that incorporate mechanical, electronics and computer interfaces.

Students with B.Sc. in Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Engineering are permitted to apply for the Masters program. Graduates from MECT are qualified for a long line of work environments such as automotive engineering, automated production facilities (food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, steel manufacturing, engineering industries…etc.)

Research topics

The Masters of Science in Mechatronics Engineering at Nile University was designed in such a way that takes into consideration actual industrial needs in Egypt AND new emerging technologies. This way, graduates from the program who are already employed, shall be able to master existing technologies and shall be able to improve, upgrade or even renovate to achieve host industry objectives. Accordingly, the research topics to be implemented within the program shall fall within this category:

  1. Advanced techniques in design and development of mechatronic systems.
  2. Embedded systems applications in design and development of mechatronic systems.
  3. Advanced control algorithms.
  4. Efficient control techniques for dynamic systems focusing on vibrations control.
  5. Adaptive structures.
  6. Smart Materials and Structures.
  7. Optimization of Discrete-Event systems with applications in:
    1. Manufacturing systems,
    2. Intelligent transportation systems,
    3. Communications
  8. Fundamental level (12 Credit Hours): Classes are provided to leverage the academic experience of students from the undergraduate level to the in-depth Masters level in mechatronics.. The subjects offered make up modules as “Mechatronic Design”, Automation” and “Mechanics and Materials” “Mechatronic Project” and “Key Qualifications”
  9. First Master’s Level (12 Credit Hours): The students have the occasion to intensify their knowledge in advanced methodologies, technologies and tools used in mechatronics. Additionally they intensify the second language (in Dual Degree system). Students shall be well prepared for their transition to the Specialization Level Courses and the Thesis work.
  10. Specialization Level (6 Credit Hours): students are studying and are working in the specialization (Automated Production processes and Computer Interfacing). In some small projects, they have to work in groups to develop new skills in management and coordination of mechatronic projects.

Academic Facilities

As Mechatronics is in general an applied discipline, the Master students have access to a long range of labs, which include industry-oriented as well as research-oriented facilities covering the research areas of the program.

Nile University and EU4M

Nile University – The first National University in Egypt – is offering a Master’s of Science program in Mechatronics Engineering as a member of the EU4M consortium in Europe (www.eu4m.eu). EU4M is a European Masters in Mechatronics and Micro-Mechatronics Systems that was established in 2008 with support of the ERASMUS MUNDUS program in EU as a joint Master’s program offered by  Hochschule Karlsruhe – Technik und Wirtschaft (HSKA) – Germany, Universidad de Oviedo (UNIOVI) – Spain and Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Mécanique et des Microtechniques (ENSMM) – France. In 2013 Nile University (NU) – Egypt and Ivanovo State Power Engineering University (ISPEU) – Russian Federation have joined the consortium. The language of the Mechatronics Masters programs offered at the partner institutions is German (HSKA), Spanish (UNIOVI), French (ENSMM) and English (NU and ISPEU).Oviedohochschuleensmm

Dual Degree

The Master’s program at NU is designed according to the Credit Hour System (48 CR) AND the European Credit Transfer System (120 ECTS). Thirty Credit Hours (90 ECTS) are covered in courses, whereas 18 CR (30 ECTS) are for Thesis work.

Students completing program requirements at Nile University shall be accredited the Master’s degree from Nile University. Students are also able to obtain dual degree with one of the three EU member universities (NU/HSKA – NU/UNIOVI – NU/ENSMM), if they spend one year at Nile University and the second year at one of the three EU partner institutions.

Students applying for the dual degree option are requested to spend either the first or the second year (24 CR / 60 ECTS) at NU and the other year at any of the three EU institutions. Students in this case are requested to use English for studying at NU and (German for HSKA or Spanish for UNIOVI or French for ENSMM). Language courses shall be offered as part of the program curricula.
