Dear University Family,
It is with great pride that I announce the beginning of the Fall 2014 year for Nile University with the largest incoming class in our history, consisting of students carefully selected to match the educational quality standards and leadership values of the University. Learning will take place in our state-of-the-art, permanent campus in Sheik Zayed City which was designed in a way to provide a wholesome educational experience to researchers, faculty and students as well as provide incubation and acceleration space to technology-based startups and venues for cultural events, reflecting NU’s belief in the role of the University not just as an educational institution but as a catalyst of change and a leader in the whole surrounding community.
To adhere to our University’s mission statement to deliver quality education, we are committed to the creation of a learning culture and to maximizing our students’ educational experience; we will begin classes on time and without delay.
As we look to the future, we also are very proud of our recent and past accomplishments, which include graduating our first-ever undergraduate class, as well as a large number of Masters students in a beautiful ceremony attended by the Prime Minister of Egypt, the Minister of Higher Education, Minister of Communication and Information Technology, the Minister of Scientific Research, the Director of USAID in Egypt, as well as many dignitaries, community business leaders and, just as importantly to us at Nile University, the proud parents who watched their sons and daughters walk across that stage and receive their diploma.
Despite the obstacles and difficulties of the last few years, the future is bright thanks to all your unwavering support. We are busy equipping the campus with new labs, sports facilities and all the equipment needed to give our students a full college experience, that not only enriches their professional lives but personal lives, as well.
I am also proud to announce that many of our master’s students gained international experience and education when they went on fully funded scholarships overseas to partner institutions of higher learning. In fact, one of NU’s recent graduates Ahmed Shosha, not only earned his Ph.D. Degree but strongly proved himself in his field and will now be joining our teaching staff.
We hope that Dr. Shosha will set the example to many young brilliant minds who will build on the international experience they received abroad and come back to place their capabilities at the service of their country, thus reversing the ongoing brain drain of Egyptian talents.
We realize that there is still a long way to go but, with the support of the family, friends, students, community leaders and government, we believe that we can be one of the top ranking universities not only in the region but in the world.
Tarek Khalil, Ph.D.
